the last days of summer
and I'm not ready to say goodbye
to the sun
high overhead and unyielding
so we wade and splash and run and laugh
amid the shallows waters
behind the "beach closed" sign
one last time
and as we sit lakeside, dining,
the setting sun and the breeze
usher in fall in force
pulling towels tighter
we mark the change
and let go
